KMAC Museum is a non-profit contemporary art museum located in Louisville's historic downtown on Museum Row.  The Museum explores the relationship between art and craft by identifying art as big idea and craft as the intersection between process, materials, and labor.  Our goal is to educate and inspire while promoting a better understanding of art through exhibitions, education, and collections.

 

Associate Director of Marketing

Reports to Executive Director.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Associate Director of Marketing will work to expand KMAC’s efforts to develop a stronger brand presence for KMAC Museum in the region.  This person will collaborate with KMAC department heads and Director to share our programs with the community. They will activate local, regional and national media, conduct community relations and maintain web and print-based marketing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

2-4 years experience in the coordination of public relations, marketing, communications, journalism or related field. Proven oral and written communication skills.  Creativity, high level of motivation, flexibility, and the ability to be collaborative are a must. Familiarity with museums or creative organizations. Confident public speaking skills; comfortable addressing large audiences both in person at events and via media outlets (television, radio, etc.)  Use of programs such as Meltwater, monitoring, analytics, and media outreach tool.

 

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, ideally in art/art history/arts administration, public relations or communications. Familiarity with the local arts scene and KMAC’s presence. Graphic design, photography, and nonprofit experience/event management a plus.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Marketing

  • Ensure that all materials meet appropriate brand standards.

  • On behalf of the Director and Board Member Committee implement our marketing strategy.

  • Manage PR/Marketing interns and contracted staff. Coordinate with the graphic designer to design brochures, exhibition announcements, signage, all other printed materials, images/design for electronic media to include the website, e-mail, etc. and any paid advertisements for print, broadcast, or electronic media.

  • Coordinate with Social Media Consultant.

  • Display an awareness of local and national museum statistics.

 

  • Work with each department to implement marketing strategies (Education, Development, Curatorial and Visitors Services departments to promote exhibitions, donor and member events, and museum programs.)

  • Maintaining WIX website.  Integrate Square and 123 Contact Form registration systems with the website.

 

II. Public Relations

  • Responsible for timely communication to foster community engagement.

  • Identify media outlets, pitch stories, develop press releases. Manage media coverage and advertisements in local, regional, and national publications to the museum’s targeted audiences.

  • Maintain and update KMAC website and social media channels.

  • Supervise and coordinate with a board of directors committee to engage board members in dialogues about brand strategy.

  • Awareness of marketing budget to include the cost of public relations events, collateral materials, as well as advertising, to be allocated department.

  • Create and maintain a relationship with local and state tourism agencies to ensure the promotion of KMAC offerings

  • Seek and fulfill media requests for interviews and photos, etc.

  • Ability to act as a spokesperson for the organization, including hosting weekly KMAC Radio Hour on 97.1 WXOX

  • Work with Museum Row on Main consortium and Look Gallery Guide group to plan and engage marketing opportunities for the district at large.

 

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of artistic practice and art history and desire to further advancement in art related field.

  • Ability to interact with the public in a welcoming, informative, diplomatic manner

  • Ability to move around gallery spaces

  • Ability to photograph events and programs

  • Ability to work with point-of-sale software

  • Excellent computer and social media skills

  • Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evening events

 

Salary based on $33,000 - 38,000 based on experience, 40hrs/week with 17 days PTO after 3 months.
