Artist Bio

Dr. Jabani Bennett is a Louisville-based visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice interrogates memory and place through portraiture, collage, and fiber. Rooted in a Kentucky family lineage of artists and musicians, and classically trained as a painter, Bennett bridges traditional studio methods with tactile experimentation and contemporary visual inquiry. Her practice engages Kentucky’s cultural landscape through local subjects and regional observation. Recent projects trace the movement of produce through global systems—from seed to kitchen—alongside figurative works that examine relationship, identity, and belonging. As an artist-mother, educator, and cultural practitioner, Bennett approaches art-making as both reflection and research, creating works that hold complexity, resilience, and the possibility of joy. She holds advanced degrees in education and leadership and is the author of Pages of Power and Peace: A Meditative Coloring Book for Black Women.
