Artist Bio

Julie Leidner is a Louisville-based artist, arts organizer, writer, educator, and
independent. She received an MFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design
(2010) and a BFA in painting from University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute (2006) and
has served as visiting critic for local and regional institutions, and as arts consultant,
group art facilitator, mentor, and instructor of art and art writing workshops across the
Louisville region. She has held leadership positions in education at the Carnegie Center
for Art and History in New Albany, IN, Francis Parker School in downtown Louisville,
Spalding University, and Kentucky College of Art and Design. She founded and curated
the experimental art gallery Sheherazade and continues to organize art exhibitions
independently.
 
Julie was a 2023 recipient of the Louisville Visual Art’s Curate Purchase Inspire
fellowship, a 2018 Great Meadows Foundation grant to attend Residency Unlimited in
Brooklyn, NY, and several Kentucky Foundation for Women grants. She lives in Old
Louisville.
