Artist Bio
Tomisha is a self-taught representational realist figure artist. God planted in her heart the passion and will to create at a very young age. She didn’t realize it was the gift she needed to add balance to her life and create a space for her to speak without saying a word. She pursued a degree and career in accounting as a CPA with the hopes of stepping into her creative interest as time and resources permitted. Her artistic journey was rekindled as she experimented with various mediums & came to appreciate the buttery consistency of oil paint. She is most drawn to creating portrait & figurative works. Capturing individuals as in a glimpse of time; naturally poised and slightly invasive intrigues her. She uses mood, expression, & environment to bridge a connection between the painted subject and viewers. Her work has exhibited in the Kore Gallery, Louisville Visual Arts Association, Cressman Center for Visual Arts, Roots 101 Museum, Art Center of the Bluegrass, Zephyr Gallery, West Elm Furniture Louisville, The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, Portland Museum, & the Louisville Visitor’s Center. One can find her work featured alongside 35 other Kentucky women artists in the “Bluegrass Bold: Stories of Kentucky Women” (Nannie Helen Burroughs) book released in 2021. She also has works included in the collection of the Novak Children’s Hospital, Play Cousins Collective, Presbyterian Church Corporate office, Scotland Healthcare System, and Cabbage Patch House. Her passion to encourage art participation through materials exploration and play informs how she nurtures creative practice with her students and the community. Teaching art at the Jefferson County Youth Detention Center from 2018 to its closing in 2020, opened the door to her opportunities of sharing art with the community. She has collaborated with the Fund for the Arts and other organizations by being a participating partner for the Fund for the Arts summer Cultural Pass experience (2021-2026). Tomisha has collaborated with other organizations to offer art instruction at Elev8 (2025-26), Sowing Seeds for Faith (2025-26), the Catholic Enrichment Center (2025-26), Louisville Free Public Library (2025), Eastern High School (2022), Louisville Visual Art’s Association (2026), and the Louisville Tourism at the Muhammad Ali Center (Live Painter, 2022). Tomisha also teaches weekly art instruction to young budding artists, hosts art parties and regularly invites all interested parties into her studio. She realizes the opportunity to create and share her work as a privilege and gift that if done responsibly and honestly can show her love for God and the people around her. Tomisha lives and works in Louisville, KY with her husband and now 3 young adult “children.”
