Using craft and process to make aesthetically diaphanous works, Marlon uses the weightless medium of paper as a platform for heavy social issues. The Trinidadian Mas, exemplified by Peter Minshall, has been a starting point for Marlon. Many times his paper pieces are destroyed after the exhibit to demonstrate the fragility of the mortal coil. His use of cardboard also speaks to the reincarnation of the paper itself and the cycle of life. Inherent in his works is the theme of contrast in the form of positive and negative space, black/white/grey, shadow/light and place/displace. Many of his works address territorialism manifested in countries and nature.
