Teen Workshops

KMAC is excited to offer a three day teen workshop for ages 11 to 15 this summer!

Bridging the Gap:

Comic Autobiographies

Tuesday July 19th - Friday July 22nd (4-day workshop)

1:00 - 3:30pm

For ages 12-18

In this workshop participants will work with artist Joyce Barbour and learn the importance of autobiographical comics as a literary medium and how the stories they tell connect us. They will create handmade comics about their lives. This workshop is a great creative and emotional outlet, especially for those struggling with anxiety and circumstantial stress. Along with being very therapeutic, crafting your own narratives can also be a source of empowerment, because it teaches you that your stories matter and your voice deserves to be heard. This workshop is LGBTQIA+ friendly.

Joyce Barbour (She/They) is a multimedia artist and educator living in Louisville, KY. Barbour’s work often explores the therapeutic possibilities of art and the idea of creativity as a communal effort. Within her teaching practice, Joyce passes on to her students a passion for using art to tell stories and make connections.
