Artist Bio
Catherine Rubin is a Louisville based artist working painting, works on paper, and digital media. Her practice centers on abstraction, exploring layered gestures, shifting surfaces and the atmospheric presence of color and form. Rubin earned an MFA from Kunsthandvaerkerskolen in Kolding, Danmark. She has received scholarships and assistantships at Penland, Haystack and Anderson Ranch Arts Center, experiences that deepened her sensitivity to material exploration and process. Early in her career she worked in eastern Kentucky on an NEA grant with master weaver, Una Pigman, an experience that continues to shape her approach to structure and surface. Her work reflects and ongoing dialogue between memory, materiality, and place.
