Artist Bio
Originally from Southern California, Briana earned a BFA in Fiber from KCAI in 2007, then served in Peace Corps Morocco, working with rural women weavers. After farming in the Northeast, she settled in Kentucky. She returned to the loom in 2014 after her first child was born and she wanted to wear him. Rather than buy a wrap she bought an old loom & wove her own. She fell deeply back in love with weaving, quickly rediscovering her joy in small wearable color, fiber & texture studies. She opened Bri Weaves in 2018. Her focus is on functional wearable art, most often in the form of cowls, scarves & neckerchiefs, and sometimes Rage Sewn Vests. She resides in Louisville with her husband, three children, two cats and two Nigora goats, who contribute cashmere for her work and bring joy on their neighborhood walks.
