Artist Bio

Elmer Lucille Allen (b. 1931, Louisville, Kentucky) is is a trailblazing chemist, acclaimed ceramic and fiber artist, and tireless arts advocate. After graduating from Central High School in 1949, she earned a B.S. in chemistry from Nazareth College (now Spalding University) in 1953, a M.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Louisville in 2002 and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Spalding in 2024, intertwining science and art in a singular lifelong practice.
