FIELD TRIPS TO KMAC

Enhance classroom lessons or offer a group an exciting cultural experience with a visit to KMAC Museum. Field trips are led by KMAC educators, offer cross-curricular connections, supplement JCPS anchor standards and participants take home their own finished work of art!

Please read all FAQs and click to make a reservation at the bottom of the page.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY FIELD TRIP?

All field trips begin with a brief introduction including a review appropriate art museum behavior, followed by a guided tour of exhibits lasting 45 minutes to an hour. We strive to approach all exhibits in an age-appropriate way, with a strong emphasis on common core connections.

If groups have opted to include an art-making experience, groups will then be guided in a hands-on craft that they can take home. We generally take a half-hour lunch break half way through our project, but if you need to schedule lunch for a specific time, please let us know.

WHAT KINDS OF HANDS-ON PROJECTS ARE AVAILABLE?

KMAC has developed a field trip curriculum to comply with both JCPS and Common Core standards and to introduce students to a variety of media and subject matter. Our field trip curriculum is divided into primary (kindergarten-4th grade), middle school (5th-8th grade) and high school (9th-12th grade), and covers a variety of media including fiber, ceramics, wood, printmaking and altered paper. Our field trip lessons cover a variety of age-appropriate content, but if there is a particular subject, theme, or medium you are studying, let us know and we will work with you to integrate it into the project. We also a offer thematic project that makes a direct connection to KMAC's current exhibition. Please ask what options are available when you schedule and about additional materials so you can prepare your students for their visit.

(Note: ceramics projects will be fired at the museum and available for pick up in 2-3 weeks).

Before you book your trip, please read our menu of field trip options  for additional information and the Academic Standards each trip is designed to meet.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Students should bring a sack lunch and a drink. They should also wear clothes that can get messy. You are welcome to bring smocks if you choose.
